I am starting to understand why Mayo Clinic requires that each person take the LEARN class prior to gastric bypass surgery. One of the major points that needs to be stressed to someone considering gastric bypass surgery is it is not a cure for obesity. It is nothing more than a tool.
It is possible for someone who has surgery to gain all of their weight back if they do not change their eating habits and lifestyle. This is the main focus of LEARN. I just finished week 2 of 12 on Tuesday, and already am so impressed with the program. My eyes have really been opened by having to log everything I eat and its calorie amount each day. I am starting to look more at labels before making meal and snack choices.

I would find it extremely difficult to look at labels. I think its too much work. In my opinion if you like it, eat it. I think it’s great you have the patience to look at the labels and really see what your putting into your body. I glad to see the program is working for you. Keep up the good work.
Reading the labels is informative and depressive. The number of servings per container is the gotcha! I found out that one pint of tapioca equals 6 servings equals 780 calories equals FAT! Gained a pound that day! You are undergoing such a lifestyle change. Stick with it and keep up the exercise. You ARE going to succeed!
I’ve had two friends that had the surgery, and it was 50-50. One gained all the weight back and more, the other has maintained 100 pound weight loss for more than two years. I really hope you can do it on your own and avoid the trauma to your body.
It sounds like you’ve got an awesome start. I hope that you can stick with it, and I’m sure you will!
